Over the winter I did a photo shoot of two little girls in the studio. One of their mom's was a fashion stylist from North Carolina. As luck would have it, she moved back to the area this Spring. We sat down and discussed ideas of how we can incorporate her services in to some of our shoots for those clients who want that extra pizazz to their photos. The best way to introduce Courtnei and her sense of fashion was to do a photo shoot of her. More used to being behind the scenes than in front of the camera, Courtnei warmed up to opportunity very quickly. Here are some of the images from our shoot in Canandaigua.

App Update

After weeks of waiting for App Store approval, version 3.0 of the Chesler Photo app is live and ready to be downloaded. The new app is much more extensive and user friendly, with all new galleries, photo tips, news, and more. You can even request an appointment right from the app. The app will also link you directly to our website, blog, Facebook page, map to the studio and it will even text, e-mail or call the studio directly from the app.

I'm sure not many of you need such direct and intimate access to the studio, so to make the app more enticing, we will be offering app only specials that will be presented as news events in the app, such as senior session specials and referral bonuses. As always, the app if free and now that is updated in the App Store, we will be releasing more galleries and news events in the coming days.

Just a few short years ago, if you mentioned the words Tweet or App, people would think you were making bird noises. Now they are common household terms. I haven't yet jumped on the Twitter band wagon, simply because I don't think anyone would give a rats patooty if I were drinking a double mocha frappalatte chino at that given moment. If I do anything worthy of shoutinig about, I'll put it on my blog. Apps on the other hand, I have found to be quite useful and entertaining. Referral Program

Word of Mouth is our best form of advertising. It's something we strive hard to earn. Your satisfaction and trust is the back bone of our business. We know we can't buy your trust, it must be nurtured through creativity and integrity. That being said, we also feel strongly that when our clients send us their family and friends to be photographed, they deserve to be rewarded for the referral. We have a new referral program in place that whenever a client refers a new portrait client to us, they'll receive $20 to use as they please. It's a small gesture we can do to show our clients how much we appreciate their business and the nice things they say about us.

We did a great session last week with Sam, a very talented CA senior. Not only is she an accomplished writer, she's an amazing artist. She brought some of her drawings along with her and we were able to incorporate them into her photos, or should I say we were able to incorporate Sam into some of her drawings. Either way, the two worlds collide with amazing results.

Choose Your Ride

We have teamed up with some of the local car dealerships to allow our high school seniors to be photographed with their favorite car. Can't afford a Mustang or Challenger? No problem, we'll photograph you with one to keep your dream alive. Sorry, you can't drive them.

There is no extra fee for your car session, however we do recommend choosing a session which will allow enough time to get your studio shots done before going to the dealership, such as our Freedom Session or Model for a Day Session.

We did yesterday's shoot over at Canandaigua Chrysler Dodge Jeep with a few of their Dodge Challengers. Thanks Scott for letting us use sucha sweet ride as our backdrop.

Ashley and Courtney

Senior portrait season has begun, and what better way to kick it off than with a really cool set of twins. Ashley and Courtney came in to the studio last week to take advantage of our free April sessions and to help us spread the word in their school. We had a lot of fun with their sessions and got some great shots for our Class of 2011 portfolio.

No Session Fees - No April Fools

For the month of April, we are waiving our session fees for all in-studio portraits. This is not an April Fools joke. Let's face it, word of mouth is our best source of advertising, so in order to get some of the coolest senior photos on the planet into the hands of as many seniors as we can before school ends, we are taking drastic measures. Since we don't want to play favorites though, we are extending the offer to any in-studio portrait session, not just seniors.
As an added bonus though for the Class of 2011, we will also include some cool giveaways that we want people to see, such as personality cards, key chain sized mini albums, wallets, posters and more. Big Print Sale

Now this can be read in two different ways, one is a (Big) Print Sale and the other is a (Big Print) Sale. We are running the latter with a 25% off sale on all prints 16x20 and larger, including Gallery Wraps. There are some new options with Gallery Wraps as well called Photo Splits, which are three Gallery Wraps of a single image split into a series. See the image below. We are also extending the sale to include float mounts which are a thin canvas wrap mounted on a block so it sits farther from the wall. Depending how it's lit, the shadow it creates can add a unique design element to the image. There are other options for the Gallery Wraps as well, such as high gloss wraps and leather wraps. For those of you who don't know what a Gallery Wrap is to begin with, it's an image printed on canvas that wraps around a wooden stretcher frame and part of the image wraps around the edge so it does not need to be framed.
If you want a more traditional look, we just picked up a new line of frames and mattes at the PPSNYS trade show, which not only look awesome, but they are priced right as well.

I'm getting ready to head to Albany tomorrow morning before the birds wake up to attend the Professional Photographer's Society of New York's annual conference. The trade show is one of the highlights of the conference with 50+ vendors from the photography industry showing off what's new for 2010. One of the people I check out annually is my friend Dennis Cole from Backgrounds by Cole. I went to his website today to browse what's new and sent him an e-mail to see if he was bringing a few specific backgrounds I want to look at. I also sent him an image I took using one of his backgrounds of one of my high school seniors. Within minutes the photo was up on his website as one of his samples.
If you're a photographer, check out his website for some pretty cool patterns, especially the Abstract and iDrop backgrounds.

At Chesler Photography, we pride ourselves in offering the highest quality, service and senior portrait experience. We did not want to devalue what we offer because of the economy, however, we do understand that the economy has placed a strain on our clients. We have decided to implement an installment plan to spread out your senior portrait order over the course of a year. Here is how it works. When you place your order, you decide how much you want to put as a down payment and we divide the balance over the next 12 months which will be charged to a credit card on file the first of each month. We will place your order once we receive half of the total amount due. If you need your order sooner rather than later, a larger down payment would be necessary, but that is entirely your choice.

What is a spa Model?

As an active member of the Senior Portrait Artists, Chesler Photography has the opportunity to send our local high school seniors to the national spa Model Competition in San Diego next January.

You can enter to be a spa Model. As a 2010 high school senior photographed at OUR STUDIO, you can choose to have your senior portraits entered in to the national spa Model competition. The cost to enter is $150 and you will receive a set of 10 model comp cards, be put on our national spaModels.com website and be eligible to be a national spa Model. You will also receive an additional hour of studio time to shoot specifically for a modeling portfolio. The 15 national winners will receive a modeling portfolio and a trip to model at the 2010 spa Event at the Del Coronado in San Diego, CA on January 4-6, 2010. Sign up today.

Who says senior portraits are only done in the summer. I had a great session yesterday with Sarah. She was so much fun to work with. I barely had to give her any direction at all. This was a great session to do after having just come back from the Senior Portrait Artists conference. Usually I'm waiting a few months before my first senior session after the conferences, so this was great to come back and jump right in. Just a note to the Class of 2010. SPA Models

As part of the Senior Portrait Artists Conference, member studios shoot seniors that are entered into the SPA Models competition, in which entered high school senior models have a chance to win a trip to that years SPA Conference to model for the photographers, as well as being able to win SPA Model of the Year. Each of the finalists are also connected with modeling agents to begin heir modeling careers. As a SPA member studio, look for details on the 2010 SPA Model competition on our blog and website in the next few months.

On Tuesday, December 16, I will be hosting a Class of 2010 Senior Focus Group so I can pick your brains on what you want and like regarding senior portraits. I am looking for 15 students, both guys and girls to participate. Letter from Sam

I just received this letter from Sam and thought I would share it with you.

Senior pictures. In one hour you are expected to document everything you
love, everything you are, and everything you hope to be remembered for.
Impossible? I certainly thought so. Who am I anyway? I am no athlete, nor an
academic prodigy. I am a dreamer, a writer. My passion is books: ones I've read,
and ones I plan to write. So what on earth would I do for my senior pictures?
Without any sort of idea, I packed four or five reusable Wegmans bags full of
random, potentially meaningful possessions and drove to Chesler Photography on
Main Street.

I had briefly met Steve Chesler on a previous occasion
and remembered him as a fun, easygoing kind of guy. My memories, as it were,
proved accurate. Between the five outfits, the countless props and sets, my
favorite radio station playing in the background, and Mr. Chesler's constant
encouragement as he shot what must have been a million or so pictures of me; my
one hour photo shoot flew by faster than I ever could have guessed.

The experience was nothing short of fantastic, not only do I have wonderful photos
to send to my relatives and friends, but perhaps more importantly, this
experience has been a profound confidence booster. I can look at my senior
pictures and smile. They are beautiful and unique to my own style, whatever it
may be. I highly recommend Chesler Photography to everyone looking to get their
senior portraits taken.
